The American Cancer Society guidelines recommend colon cancer screening for patients over 50 years old with no family history of colon cancer. Dr. Elsen failed to recommend a colonoscopy to Julie Davis during the time she was his patient which would have diagnosed the colon cancer sooner thereby avoiding the need for six months of chemotherapy. No offer to settle the case was ever made on behalf of Dr. Elsen.
