$2.9 million jury verdict against an orthopedic surgeon for improperly performing a uni-compartmental knee replacement surgery. Carla Barnwell v. Dr. Christopher Dangles and Carle Clinic Association. Carla Barnwell, a University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign professor, underwent a uni-compartmental knee surgery that was performed by Dr. Dangles. Following the surgery, Carla was unable to fully extend her knee as a result of Dr. Dangles improperly performed surgery requiring two revision surgeries. No settlement offer was ever made by the Defense, and the jury returned the exact dollar amount requested by the Plaintiff during closing arguments ($2,937,860).
